Google Ad Conversion Tracking on Websites Built with GoDaddy Website Builder
Jan 8, 2025
I recently helped a new client set up their Google Ads campaign for success. Naturally, this included setting up conversion tracking, but there was one major problem—their website was built using GoDaddy Website Builder. I’ve only worked with these types of websites a few times over the years, and they make it difficult to properly set up conversion tracking.
First off, you can’t add code to the <head> tag of the website. The only options available are adding code to the body of the website and including a Google Analytics measurement ID in the website settings. That’s it!
Even adding Google Tag Manager’s “noscript” code to the body doesn’t work.
These days, I typically set up conversion tracking using WhatConverts software, but I couldn’t use it in this case because it requires adding their script to the <head> of each page. As you might guess, that’s not possible with GoDaddy Website Builder.
So, what’s the solution? Track what you can using Google Analytics. For example, you can track click-to-call events, form starts, and/or form submissions. However, you won’t be able to track calls from desktop users using Google Ads Website Call Conversion Tracking, nor will you be able to track offline conversions.
Ideally, the best course of action would be to create a new website using Webflow, Framer, or WordPress. Squarespace is another decent option. While I’m not a fan of Wix, it at least allows you to set up WhatConverts and other conversion tracking tools you may need.
